10 Helpful Photoshop Timesavers

1. Hold down the Cmd/Ctrl key while at the same time clicking on a layer in Photoshop’s main image window to auto-select a layer.

2. If you want to remove all the colour from an image, and don’t want to go into grayscale mode, press Shift Cmd/Ctrl U (called ‘Desaturate’) and make your image grayscale while still in RGB mode. Note: using the channel mixer will produce a better result. Click on the Grayscale option.

3. If you want to move a selection to its own layer. Press Cmd/Ctrl J to copy the selection. To cut and move a selection, press Shift Cmd/Ctrl J

Building the best design out there isn’t going to be easy. But in the process of practice and adhering to common design principles, web designers can get a good start on making their own unique designs. But before this can be done, there are guidelines in making a generally sound web layout.

How well one can read a website is the overal goal of a web design. After all, if one can’t read the website, what is the purpose of viewing it? It’s generally best to have a large font that contrasts nicely against the background it is featured on. A 11 pixel font or great is a good start, although going for a bigger font is always nice for the reader (but harder to incorporate in smaller designs).
